Farm Expectations

All riders are expected to follow all instructions from Love Reins staff members. Helmets must be worn at all times while on the horse unless otherwise instructed by a staff member. All supplies including grooming equipment and tack must be returned to its designated location neatly after use.

Bullying

The goal of Love Reins is to provide a safe place for all people! Bulling of any kind will not be tolerated. Consequences for bullying will be left to the sole discretion of LRE staff and may result in termination of activities at the farm for that child.

Social Media

We love to see encouraging and positive social media posts with the Love Reins family! We do not allow posts that portrays LRE or our animals in a negative light including “fail videos” and falls. These videos often do not reflect the whole story of an event and can lead to incorrect assumptions by the viewers. We love seeing our students focus on their success!

Horse Correction & Praise

Crops, whips, and spurs of any kind may not be used on LRE horses without permission from a staff member. The LRE horses may not be hit, patted, slapped, or smacked as a form of praise. Gentle petting and rubbing are appropriate ways to reward a horse while hitting increases anxiety in the horse. Students may not hit or punish LRE horses without permission and direction from a staff member.

Safety

No one (child or adult) may enter the pastures with horses in them or the stall with a horse in it without direct guidance and supervision from a staff member. No student or parent should be at the farm without a staff member present unless specified by Emma Love Sides.

Treats

Students may bring carrots and apples to feed the horses. These are the only foods other than farm supplied feed and hay that the LRE horses may eat without permission from Emma Love Sides. We closely monitor their diets to keep the horses safe and healthy.

Spectators

Children at the farm not actively participating in a program (siblings, friends, etc.) must be supervised by a responsible adult at all times.

Payment

To secure my rider’s spot in the group lesson program, payments must be made on time or their spot in the group lesson may be lost. Private lesson payments are due on the date of the private lesson.

Event Cancellations

Registration for all farm events including lessons, horse shows, clinics, and special events must be canceled or changed greater than 24 hours before the start of the event. The full amount of the event will be due if canceling with short notice (less than 24 hours) no matter the reason for the cancellation.

Late Pickup

Late pickup (15 minutes or more after the lesson or event ends) will result in a fine of $1 per minute that the child must be supervised by staff members.

Makeup Lessons

Group lesson absences must be communicated with Emma Love Sides at least 24 hours before the start time of class or as soon as possible if the rider is sick. Absences not clearly communicated ahead of time will not be able to be made up. One missed lesson per month with 24+ hours of notice or due to illness may be made up on an agreed upon makeup lesson date. There are no makeups for missed private lessons or missed leased hours.

Weather

Lessons are almost never canceled for bad weather but parents will be contacted if they are canceled. If the lesson takes place and you would rather keep your child home, that is totally fine but a makeup lesson will not be allowed. There are always things to learn at the farm regardless of the weather.

No Shows

The riding instructors are paid per student in a lesson therefore if a rider does not show up for a lesson there cannot be a makeup or a refund because the money has already been allocated to the instructor and the farm.

Speed Limit

The speed limit at the farm is 5mph to avoid creating clouds of dust that can harm horse’s eyes and lungs as well as for the safety of all children at the farm.

Parking

LRE parking is along the white fence facing the upper ring or in the grass between the LRE barn and the hay storage barn. Please do not park in front of the lower ring with jumps where most lessons take place because it is reserved parking for those who board their horse on the property.

Parenting During Lessons

The riding instructor is in charge during the lesson time. Please do not coach or instruct your child from the sideline especially in the case of an emergency. Please trust the instructor to be the only voice calling out to your child in order to help them handle the situation safely. Please do not enter the riding ring unless asked to by the instructor who will first make sure it is safe to do so.

Getting Back In The Saddle

If a student falls off the horse (which will happen), they will be briefly assessed by the riding instructor first. If they are physically able, it is expected of them to get back on the horse to prevent developing a fear of riding. Parents, please encourage your children to be brave and get back in the saddle.
